Sew What?

I've been mesmerized by all the very talented bloggers in blog world. I too want to be crafty and put my creativity to use. I would absolutely love to whip up some drapes that I fancy in my many magazines or create an accessory from a garage sale find. Recently, I have found myself drooling over a sewing machine. Until I make that purchase....you should see what I can do with a can of spray paint!

His and Hers

This past weekend was a drill weekend so I did a little shopping with the girls. I had lunch with the twins and then we went hunting for bridesmaid dresses for Kimberly's wedding. Since Allyson is pregnant, Kimberly(the bride) tried on dresses for Allyson. Must be nice having a twin! We did find a cute dress with pockets. I'm really excited about the pockets... Lee called me on his way home from drill to confirm we had food at home. He was hungry! Nothing eventful to report from the drill. This is a good thing. Lee said they had quite a bit of class time and they did P90X for hours. His abs and legs are sore. He's still in bed when I leave for work and his muscles were starting to tighten up last night so I'll be curious to see how he feels today. Evil laugh. Evil laugh. It was a great his and hers weekend. FYI: The art arrived this weekend and Lee hung it up for me last night. It looks really good. I'll post a picture of the new dining room as soon as I get the new chandelier.

Sneak Peek

My absolute favorite pastime is to rearrange furniture. Silly, I know. We are having a blast making our house a home. At the moment, I am flipping our dining room. Here's a sneak peek of some items that I have ordered. They should be here soon. I'll post a pic of the finished room when it is complete. This is the new chandelier that will be hung above the dining room table.

My Chair is Worth What?!

Mom called and said that the lady that's doing the upholstery to my wing back chair called her. She said that the chair is an antique worth ~$4K!Holy crap. Mom bought the chair from some place YEARS ago for $100 and gave it to me recently to upholster. Crazy huh?!?! Needless to say....mom doesn't want me to reupholster the chair now. She wants to find a buyer! We're being told that if you reupholster then it devalues the item to the value of the material. Booooo...I loved that big comfy chair. In the meantime, I've got 6 yards of fabulous brown and cream houndstooth fabric pending a replacement chair!

Heroes at Home

This Summer while Lee was doing his training, I stumbled across a forum full of information for Army wives. It was there that I discovered a thread describing this wonderful organization. Through Sears, Heroes at Home collects contributions for active military families. Total donations are then distributed evenly three times throughout the holidays. Shortly after reading this I saw an advertisement on television and decided to complete my own application. We saved all three gift card installments and purchased a new stainless steel stove to go towards our kitchen makeover.
A very special thank you to Sears, Heroes at Home and the many contributors.

Little of This & That

The doctor decided to go ahead and have Lee's dad start chemo. He had his first treatment last Friday. He hasn't had a bad reaction to it yet. After a long debate, the doctors decided that we have nothing to lose. We can let the cancer win or at least fight it with treatment. He may not have the strength for chemo but at least we can say we tried. Lee’s parent’s decided to go for it with a “what do we have to lose attitude”. I really admire my MIL’s strength and optimistic attitude. She is definitely a glass half full gal. We keep begging 2010 to throw us a rainbow but in the meantime we’re climbing mountains and hurdling new ones. My southern belle of a grandmother fell last week. She broke her hip and shoulder. She has since had surgery to set the breaks. She’s not a candidate for a hip replacements due to her health. My sweet granddad is her comedic relief. He is the epitome of her Prince Charming. They have been married since they were teenagers and he's just recently turned 80 years old! Lee and I are praying for healing and comfort. We are approaching another Drill Weekend. Lee will do his thing while I shop for bridesmaid dresses with Kimberly. It'll be nice to have a change of pace.

Update

I never know what to say at times like this. I can do nothing but be supportive and pray. We drove to the hospital after work last night and got back home late last night. Jim had a cat scan yesterday and we should see what the results are sometime today. Lee's dad took a turn for the worse yesterday. The doctor let Jan know that Jim seems to have an infection and it is progressing the cancer; Advance Stage 4 Cancer. He’s not strong enough for treatment. This means he will not be able to start chemo. They will only be able to treat him through an IV and that is to make him comfortable. He will be receiving an antibiotic to fight the infection and buy time. She took him to the hospital yesterday morning bc he had gotten too weak to get out of bed and his eye color was abnormal. They transported him to another hospital by ambulance. Jan said that the doc told her Jim could go fast or it may take some time. Either way, the way the cancer is progressing and the options available-there’s not much more they can do. Our heart hurts. Pray for our family. We can hope he regains his strength. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. Psalm 28:7 Keep ya posted.
